Facebook drew power from its own smartphone by lack of money

Facebook was busy in 2010 with its own smartphone. However, the project was put on by lack of money.


Facebook would develop both the hardware and the software of the phone, like Apple does with the iPhone, says former Facebook director Chamath Palihapitiya opposite Recode .


“It was a very creative period of twelve months, with the best and most creative employees of Facebook,” says Palihapitiya. The phone was designed by Yves Béhar, now Creative Director at Jawbone.


The company also had agreements with chip maker Intel and the US telecom operator AT & T. “It would really be an iPhone-like moment,” said the former Facebook employee. The launch of the phone, however, it would now cost $ 1 billion, and that money was Facebook at that time.
